WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is eligible for hybrid telework week  

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Provides direction and coordination of long-range planning functions for the Office of Student Assignment and the School Choice, Planning and Assignment division.  Assists with the formulation of the Capital Improvement Plan for the district and provides information and support to various departments associated with new school sites and prioritization of existing school renovations.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps;
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervisory oversight;
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and performance;
  • Ability to read, interpret and comply with WCPSS and department procedures;
  • Ability to research, review, and utilize school design plans and information;
  • Ability to gather and analyze pertinent facts, arrive at conclusions or recommendations, and present in an easily understood and reportable format;
  • Ability to research, collect and analyze technical data for use in complex planning initiatives and projects;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, local government, and the community.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field; AND
  • Five years’ experience in long-range planning.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certifications (AICP) and/or active memberships in relevant professional organizations;
  • Master’s Degree in Planning;
  • Experience in public education in a growth/planning or related department.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Facilitates the development of a 10-year by grade membership forecast.
  2. Provides information and data associated with identifying new school sites and prioritization of renovation projects.
  3. Oversees the management and updates of the school capacity models based on legislative requirements, the Department of Public Instruction guidelines, and programs that align with proposed space standards for each of the following: new schools, renovations, magnet programs, Pre-Kindergarten, Special Education, multi-track year-round schools, flexible capacity spaces, etc.
  4. Oversees the management and updates of the Master Track Plan for year-round schools.
  5. Oversees the management and updates of the use of flexible capacity and multi-track year-round schools to address long-term planning needs.
  6. Oversees the management and updates of capping recommendations made to the Board of Education.
  7. Supervises the Senior Administrator of Long-Range Planning.
  8. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff and staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work requires activities frequently involving driving automotive equipment.
