WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends required for on- call emergencies on a rotating basis) 

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Performs entry-level or craftsman-level work associated with electrical systems, materials, equipment and fixtures. Assists and installs fixtures, outlets, and switches. Wires and repairs electrical equipment and conduit, ensuring broken wiring and faulty electrical components are repaired. Assists in the testing of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures, making certain any malfunctioning elements are repaired and/or replaced.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures;

  • Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel; Google Apps;

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills;

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;

  • Ability to work independently and part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;

  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;

  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on electrical systems;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent;

  • Experience as an electrician or related field.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements;

  • Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited college or technical school training in electrical systems or a related field.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs entry-level or craftsman-level work associated with electrical systems, materials, equipment and fixtures.

  2. Responds to assigned work orders relating to electrical systems; troubleshoots appropriate corrective measures and performs work to provide a solution.

  3. Assists in replacing faulty or defective electrical equipment and systems.

  4. Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports, as needed.

  5. Adheres to laws, regulations and requirements set forth in the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) safety procedures/policies.

  6. Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining a safe work environment.

  7. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position operates in an indoor and outdoor environment. This role routinely uses a variety of equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 75 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment, as well as frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases and chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather conditions.
