WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is not eligible for hybrid telework workweek

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Provides leadership and supervision for the Safety Assistants in training, discipline concerns, job performance and collaborates in creating better relationships between school staff, parents, and contract drivers. Assists the Senior Administrator with developing goals, objectives, and staff requirements to impact the program effectively according to the policies, procedures, and practices.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of applicable laws of Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) policies, practices, and procedures affecting transportation.

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point; Google Apps;

  • Knowledge of database systems with the ability to analyze and organize data;

  • Knowledge of record keeping and reporting techniques;

  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to maintain professionalism under stress in order appropriately respond to situation;

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills; able to communicate effectively in both obtaining and furnishing information as well as able to communicate effectively with a diverse population of customers;

  • Demonstrated successful leadership skills with the ability to motivate and direct staff;

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, vendors and to the community.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent;

  • Two years of leadership and supervisory experience;

  • Five years of experience working with special needs students;

  • Experience in developing and delivering professional development.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree in business administration, management, logistics or related field;

  • Supervisory experience in transportation operations;

  • Experience working with school or public transportation.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops, implements, and evaluates strategic processes to smoothly transition into coordinating the proper assistance for special needs children on the contract transportation route.

  2. Trains, educates, and assists Safety Assistants establishing requirements to complete their job properly and coordinates daily operations according to new cabs that require Safety Assistants and existing cabs.

  3. Acts as a liaison for Safety assistants and contract vehicles to specifically target the need of a special needs children, ensuring safe transport to and from school.

  4. Documents and processes information that is significant to job services and staff work performance

  5. Opens, sorts, and distributes incoming messages and correspondences; maintains office inventories which adhere to budget practices; files and organize personnel information.

  6. Schedules training, coordinates meetings, and communicates with safety assistants effectively.

  7. Adheres to and processes payroll information for Safety Assistants.

  8. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. May require, at times, work that's performed outdoors (e.g., vehicle inspections, parking lot attendance, etc.). The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, and staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. The employee must frequently lift and /or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and /or move more than 100 pounds with assistance. Physical requirements this position are consistent with those for heavy duty work. The work requires driving automotive equipment.
