Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends required for on- call emergencies on a rotating basis)
POSITION PURPOSE:
Performs inspection, detection, prevention, and control work for pest management. Operates power or hand tools for the application of pesticides to control or eradicate structural pests; performs routine maintenance and repairs on pesticide tools and equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
Working knowledge of pest control prevention and eradication techniques;
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel; Google Apps;
Working knowledge of OSHA standards;
Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
Ability to work independently and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;
Ability to perform maintenance and repairs on pesticide tools and equipment;
Ability to operate power and hand tools such as hammer drill, backpack vacuum;
Ability to identify common agricultural pests in the field and select appropriate pest management methods;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, external agencies.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent;
Experience in pest management or related field.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements;
Within three months of employment obtain certification as a registered structural pest control technician;
Within six months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of lift station pumps.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs routine cafeteria inspections to identify present or potential pest issues.
Responds to assigned work orders relating to pest management complaints; troubleshoots appropriate corrective measures, and treats problem, as required.
Performs monthly inspections to determine the presence of pest activity such as insects, nematodes, rodents, and entry points into schools and sites; monitors progress of pest management efforts.
Sprays, treats, and baits to control pests using judgment in selecting appropriate materials and methods; suggests pest prevention measures.
Operates power or hand tools for the application of pesticides to control or eradicate structural pests; performs routine maintenance and repairs on pesticide tools and equipment.
Prepares and maintains inspection records, work logs, and investigation reports, as needed.
Ensures a safe and healthy work environment through the management of integrated pest management.
Ensures proper storage, selection, mixing, packaging, and application of hazardous chemicals and toxic materials.
Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position operates in an indoor and outdoor environment. This role routinely uses a variety of equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment, as well as frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases and chemicals, moving parts, inclement weather conditions, insects, and other pests (examples include household pests, snakes, foxes, bees, wasps, etc.).
