WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is eligible for hybrid telework workweek

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Supports compliance, service delivery, and best practices efforts in Preschool Itinerant Special Education Services.  Collaborates with families, childcare agencies, and departmental staff to coordinate services for students. Supports up to 35 itinerant teachers with administrative and instructional tasks as they provide special education services to students.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Comprehensive knowledge of ECATS;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local compliance regulations;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of best practices in special education and the development of young children;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, and Power Point; Google Apps;
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills;
  • Strong interpersonal relationship and customer service skills;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to independently resolve problems;
  • Ability to organize information from multiple sources;
  • Ability to handle confidential material;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, businesses, community agencies, and the public.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in early childhood;
  • Five years of successful pre-kindergarten teaching experience;
  • Five years of successful Special Education experience;
  • Experience with varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Experience in leadership roles.

 

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Birth to Kindergarten;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters’s degree in early childhood education or related field.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Collaborates with Senior Administrator for program planning and development.
  2. Makes educational assignments of all itinerant students and keeps accurate records of student assignments and services.
  3. Collaborates with stakeholders, including Lead Case Managers, to assign students according to guidelines agreed upon.
  4. Supports teachers with serving as LEA for IEP meetings, troubleshooting service delivery and problem-solving.
  5. Ensures teachers complete data checkpoints in Teaching Strategies Gold and Progress Notes at the appropriate markers.
  6. Processes monthly mileage and leave requests.
  7. Performs ongoing monitoring of teachers, as needed including leading a New Itinerant Teacher Professional Learning Community (PLC).
  8. Compiles and reports accurate program data.
  9. Develops, compiles, and presents information to community agencies on child development and student services.
  10. Attends staff development trainings to maintain up to date knowledge of best practices to implement early childhood special education strategies.
  11. Represents itinerant and preschool services on community committees, Preschool Program Leadership Team, Kid Talk Meetings, and others, as requested.
  12. Develops, implements, and oversees process for end of year student folder transition.
  13. Participates in screening and interviewing candidates for itinerant teaching positions.
  14. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position operates in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion to 10 pounds of force. The work requires occasionally driving automotive equipment.
