POSITION PURPOSE:
Receives and distributes all incoming freight from internal and external parties for central receiving. Performs quality control inspections of received goods and delivery lines. Performs daily inspections of material handling equipment. Assists in securing and storing of furniture and equipment for new and renovated schools and occasional surplus property assistance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
Considerable knowledge of principals of warehouse operations, shipping and receiving;
Considerable knowledge of Federal, State, Local, and Board of Education policies regarding safety & OSHA regulations;
Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps;
Effective time management skills;
Effective problem solving skills;
Ability to perform heavy physical labor;
Ability to operate forklift and other material handling equipment;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
Ability to work independently and without close supervision;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff and external vendors/agencies
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent; AND
Two years of experience in shipping/receiving or general warehousing experience; OR
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must hold forklift certification or successfully complete training and certification requirements for forklift operator within sixty days of hire;
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license with a good driving record according to the State of NC requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives all incoming freight from freight lines, package services, and company delivery vehicles.
Completes delivery receipts, annotates any shortages or damages on freight bills or delivery tickets, and reports such to the administrative section for further action.
Matches all incoming materials with packing lists and receiving reports, receipts, backorders, shortages, overages, and damages; marks and segregates all errors and damaged material in proper location.
Re-packs all correct materials, mark receiving reports, labels containers, and places them in the proper shipping area.
Prepares transfer/driver forms and issue all materials to the shipping area for further delivery to the schools, departments, or warehouse.
Receives material from internal sources and prepares items for shipment outside the school system.
Operates as a floater for warehouse general operations.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires working in a normal warehouse environment with variable temperature and moderate noise levels. The role requires exposure to variable weather elements. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The work requires driving a forklift and automotive equipment. Work involves exerting 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for heavy work and there could be exposure to variable weather elements. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, external agencies, and the community.
