POSITION PURPOSE:
Responsible for management of work planning, budgeting, and leadership of work teams and individuals in the Electrical Shop.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures;
Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel;
Considerable knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
Ability to work independently and part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;
Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on electrical systems;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalency;
Three years of leadership experience leading work teams;
Five years of experience directly related to electrical systems installation and repair.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Hold a valid Electrician License determined by the North Carolina Board of Electrical Contractors;
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements;
Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates degree or technical school training in electrical systems;
Experience with computerized maintenance management software, preferably MAXIMO.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages budgeting, assigning work, and leadership of staff in the electrical shop.
Provides recommendations for development of the departmental budget, prepares and analyzes major purchase requests of materials, equipment, and parts; assists in the analysis and selection of vendors and contractors.
Supervises staff to ensure work is completed correctly and in a timely manner; provides on the job training to electrical staff.
Maintains accurate records, inventory, time sheets, etc. relating to all activities.
Oversees, performs, and documents all program audits and inspections related to the electrical shop.
Responsible for receiving and dispersing information in a timely manner related to issues such as safe work practices, work schedules or delays, wasted resources, errors not readily apparent or easy to detect, non-compliance to procedures, work processes or procedures that could improve performance or reduce costs, and oversees employee training.
Recognizes and evaluates occupational safety hazards and takes appropriate actions to protect employee and public health and safety.
Ensures procedure compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, required safety training as specified in the Safety Manual, occupational health practices, and establishing a safe work environment within the electrical shop.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in an indoor and outdoor environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors and staff members of external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment. Frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather conditions.
