WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) 

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Directs strategic planning, organization, and implementation of the Wake County Public School System’s (WCPSS) MSAP grant for new magnet schools. Coordinates professional learning, resource allocations, and leadership support to MSAP- funded magnet schools to ensure successful operation of new/revised magnet programs. Collaborates with central services departments and external stakeholders to maximize the effectiveness of MSAP. Manages a $15 million federal budget and works directly with WCPSS Grants Office and the US Department of Education regarding grant-related correspondence and evaluation. Assists the Senior Director of Magnet and Curriculum Enhancement Programs to ensure new magnet programs are implemented with fidelity and sustained long-term. The position and grant are scheduled to end on September 30, 2028.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge of magnet school themes and implementation;

  • Considerable knowledge of the MSAP grant;

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel; Google Apps;

  • Strong budget management skills;

  • Excellent presentation skills;

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;

  • Ability to set goals and meet timelines in an environment with multiple, concurrent projects and federal reports;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the public.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, or related field;

  • Five years of experience in education or business administration;

  • Extensive experience with implementing a MSAP grant;

  • Experience with magnet school design and implementation;

  • Experience with grant management;

  • Experience with planning and delivering professional development to adult learners.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educator’s license;

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Curriculum and Instruction or related field;

  • Experience as a school-based magnet coordinator.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides leadership in developing and implementing magnet school plans funded through the MSAP grant, ensuring that all MSAP-grant fundamentals at awarded magnet schools are adhering to federal, state, and local policies.

  2. Serves as the liaison between WCPSS, the grant schools and the US Department of Education.

  3. Provides budgetary oversight for a multi-million-dollar federal grant; ensures the grant spending plan is in accordance with federal, state, and local policies, including review of all grant-related travel and training.

  4. Coordinates with district personnel, principals, school-based magnet coordinators, and other staff members to support schools receiving MSAP funds.

  5. Coordinates and delivers MSAP training, when needed.

  6. Supervises and provides the development of new and revised curriculum that are aligned with the NC Essential Standards as well as the innovative themes.

  7. Plans and facilitates regular meetings with MSAP-funded school leaders.

  8. Promotes and coordinates collaboration among schools, where applicable.

  9. Coordinates with Academics and other central services departments in curriculum development, facility, and transportation impacts, etc., that are expected outcomes for the MSAP implementation.

  10. Provides grant updates through written and oral presentations to WCPSS management and assists with presentation to the Board of Education.

  11. Researches and stays up to date with current trends and best practices in education, including information about enhanced and innovative curricula.

  12. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. Requires regular travel to MSAP schools withing Wake County and occasional travel outside Wake County for MSAP conferences.
