POSITION PURPOSE:
Oversees the Teacher Support Program in Talent Management of Human Resources. Provides support and professional development for school administrators in using the NC Educator Evaluation System (NCEES), implementing the policies of the Beginning Teacher Support Model, and growing teachers professionally. Works with Employee Relations to support school administrators when working with certified staff performance concerns.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
- Extensive knowledge of the Beginning Teacher Support Program;
- Extensive knowledge of polices governing North Carolina Professional Educator’s Licensure requirements including the licensure renewal process;
- Extensive knowledge of NCEES and the overall evaluation process of professional staff;
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
- Excellent customer service skills;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
- Ability to lead and motivate staff;
- Ability to perform data analysis;
- Ability to design and deliver professional development;
- Ability to assess program needs and develop short-term and long-term goals and plans;
- Ability to leverage technology for efficiency;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, external agencies, and the community.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
- Five years of experience coaching and mentoring school staff to support teacher growth.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in content teaching area;
- Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in school administration or curriculum and supervision;
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience as a principal or assistant principal;
- Experience as a teacher leader (such as, coordinating teacher, instructional facilitator, mentor coordinator).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads the development and implementation of the district-wide Beginning Teacher Support Program.
- Manages and supports retention programs and initiatives; not limited to the following: Beginning Teacher professional development, Beginning Teacher Induction, alternative licensing candidates, educators from abroad, mentoring program, and mentor coordinator meetings.
- Designs and delivers professional development to school administrators, as needed, to support effective evaluation practices; creates and facilitates training sessions and provides materials to users.
- Collaborates with Employee Relations to support school administrators with certified staff performance concerns which includes but is not limited to Pre-Non-Proficient Letters, Monitored Professional Development Plans, and initial non-renewal meetings with certified staff.
- Attends and participates in human resources staff meetings, professional development, Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) events, and other school system functions, as appropriate.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies and other community members. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment. Travel is required to schools, central service offices, and other locations both in and outside of Wake County.
