WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Improves student achievement and college and career readiness by building capacity among K-12 instructional staff in Healthful Living education. Provides high quality professional development and creation of curricular resources to ensure high quality student learning and teaching.  The position and grant are scheduled to end at the completion of the 2030-2031 school year.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of K-12 Health and Physical Education Essential Standards in the NC Standard Course of Study and 21st century learning skills;
  • Extensive knowledge of tobacco and vaping epidemic among youth;
  • Extensive knowledge of instructional strategies emphasizing decreasing the number of students using tobacco and vaping products;
  • Extensive knowledge of research-based instructional strategies;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps;
  • Effective strategic problem-solving skills, including the use of multiple data points;
  • Effective time management and organizational skills;
  • Ability to have a growth mindset and have flexible thinking skills;
  • Ability to transfer health and physical education concepts across curriculum content areas;
  • Ability to design and deliver small and large group professional development;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback; 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and build consensus with district and
  • school administrators, teachers, support staff, central services, and parents.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
  • Five years of successful teaching experience in an area of Healthful Living Education (Health Education, Physical Education, or combined Healthful Living Courses).

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator’s license in a Healthful Living area;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction;
  • Education or professional development related to adult learning;
  • Experience in curriculum development.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Works closely with the Director of Healthful Living Education to identify district needs and to design strategic plans for district-level and school-based key processes.
  2. Collaborates with K-12 Academics Programs including content area staff in designing and implementing school-specific and/or district-wide initiatives focused on enhancing student achievement.
  3. Designs and facilitates professional development in Health and Physical Education Integration, content specific pedagogy, and performance-based assessments related to Health and Physical Education.
  4. Organizes and supports school and district level professional learning teams or Department Chair meetings for K-12 Health and Physical Education.
  5. Provides training to curriculum writers to ensure appropriate content development and performance-based assessments.
  6. Works collaboratively with school administrators and School Improvement Teams to design and implement school processes that promote health-rich school cultures and climates.
  7. Assesses digital and print materials to determine the best recommendations for specific use of resources.
  8. Participates in ongoing professional development in the field of Health and Physical Education related to current research and best practices for instructional technology, digital resources, and district strategic initiatives; coaches adult learners.
  9. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force. The work requires driving automotive equipment.
