WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (varies based on number of high schools served)

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Provides assistance to juniors, seniors, and their parents/guardians in finding funds to meet the costs of higher education. Provides access to financial aid information, including Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion support, scholarship and grant searches, workshops, and applying for grants/loans.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Considerable knowledge of financial aid processes, including FAFSA application process;
  • Considerable knowledge of available forms for financial aid, including scholarships, grants, and loans;
  • Considerable knowledge of processes connecting students to financial aid offices at the post-secondary level;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel; Google Apps;
  • Effective communication and consultation skills;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to handle information in an appropriate and confidential manner;
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision;
  • Ability to work in a courteous and professional manner with school system staff, parents and guardians of students, and the general public.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, preferably in an education-related field.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in a public-school environment.
  • Experience working with financial aid processes.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinates and provides leadership to financial aid awareness at assigned high schools.
  2. Presents an overview of the financial aid process to students in classroom settings, including the FAFSA application processes and timelines.
  3. Provides consultation to students and parents/guardians regarding financial aid processes, FAFSA application process, timelines, and available options for paying for college.
  4. Assists with planning and implementation of financial aid workshops for students and parents/guardians.
  5. Consults with school counselors on individual student needs, as appropriate.
  6. Consults with college financial aid counselors, as needed.
  7. Communicates effectively and efficiently with school system staff, students, parents, and the public, as needed.
  8. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
  9. Prepares and submits a monthly advisor report to the Financial Aid Advisor Program (FAAP) lead advisor.
  10. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, copiers, and telephones. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents/guardians, and the general public. and staff members. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment.
