WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek

POSITION PURPOSE:

Provides customer service to parents and guardians seeking to enroll their children in the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS). Serves as the primary liaison between the Office of Student Assignment and approximately 40 schools for implementation of Board Policy 4100: Student Assignment, Board Policy 4150: Transfer of School Assignment, and other WCPSS Board of Education policies related to school assignments and student information.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of current principles, practices, trends, and issues in student assignment;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel; Google Apps;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills;
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Ability to analyze data to support office procedures;
  • Ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the public.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in education or a related field; AND
  • Two years of experience in a public education setting.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledgeable of WCPSS policies relating to Student Assignment;
  • Bilingual/Spanish speaking.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides accurate and timely information to parents and community members according to local and state policies and procedures related to the assignment of students to schools in WCPSS.
  2. Participates in the development of recommendations related to the assignment of students to schools, designation of magnet and calendar option school application areas, potential changes in Office of Student Assignment policies and procedures, and the establishment of procedural documentation for central office and school personnel.
  3. Implements the transfer process as described in WCPSS Board Policy 4150, including the preparation and distribution of necessary forms, approval, or disapproval of requests in accordance with the policy, proper notification to parents and principals, conferences as needed with parents or guardians, the coordination and administration of board appeal hearings, and the maintenance of data regarding transfer requests, approvals, and denials.
  4. Collaborates with appropriate central office departments to implement and monitor transfers and special placements under their direction (Special Education Services (SES), English as a Second Language (ESL), optional schools, and Counseling and Student Services (CaSS)).
  5. Implements procedures for establishing custody and permanent domicile in accordance with board policies and procedures and maintains appropriate documentation and summary data.
  6. Investigates and makes determinations of legitimate Wake County addresses and school assignments when possible discrepancies or falsifications are identified.
  7. Provides training and support for school data managers regarding Office of Student Assignment procedures, as needed, and confers with data processing staff and other central office staff to maintain integrity of the student database. Participates in the scheduling and implementation of distribution of official student assignment notifications.
  8. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the public. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work requires driving automotive equipment.
