POSITION PURPOSE:
Performs entry-level or craftsman-level work associated with installation, inspection, and maintenance of plumbing systems, equipment, materials and fixtures. Evening and weekend requirements for on-call emergencies on a rotating basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
Working knowledge of plumbing systems, equipment and fixtures;
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel;
Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
Ability to work independently and part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;
Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on plumbing systems;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent;
Experience in plumbing systems installation and repair.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements;
Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates Degree or technical school training in Plumbing Systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs entry-level or craftsman-level work associated with plumbing systems, materials, equipment and fixtures.
Responds to assigned work orders relating to plumbing; troubleshoots appropriate corrective measures and performs work to provide a solution.
Replaces faulty or defective plumbing equipment and systems.
Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports, as needed.
Adheres to laws, regulations and requirements set forth in the WCPSS Safety procedures/policies.
Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position operates in an indoor and outdoor environment. This role routinely uses a variety of equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, mowers, weed eaters, sprayers, and leaf blowers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 75 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment, as well as frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, inclement weather conditions, insects and other pests (examples include snakes, bees, wasps, etc.)
