POSITION PURPOSE:
Supports the development and deployment of core instructional support for students that aligns with the mission, vision and core beliefs of the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Strategic Plan. Supports and facilitates instructional evidence-based practices through collaboration with school and district personnel, creating and developing professional learning/development targeted to improve instructional practices. Evaluates materials and resources that enhance the delivery of effective instruction. Supports implementation of core and targeted instructional assessment tools and assists in data collection and analysis in order to support actionable decisions to improve instructional support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
- Comprehensive knowledge of local, state and federal policies and procedures applicable to special education and related services;
- Comprehensive knowledge of Wake County Board of Education policies, procedures, and standards
- Comprehensive knowledge of North Carolina Standard Course of Study
- Considerable knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and the implementation of Standard Treatment Protocol (STP);
- Considerable knowledge of WCPSS benchmark assessments aligned to grades K-5;
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Power Point; Google Apps;
- Effective time management skills;
- Ability to collect, interpret, and analyze student data to generate effective courses of action;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
- Ability to lead and motivate a diverse staff across multiple grade levels;
- Ability to work in a team environment;
- Ability to set goals, action steps and timelines to assist teams in achieving positive outcomes for students;
- Ability to identify problems/issues and to work with teams and individuals to develop solutions;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, and build consensus with district and school administrators, teachers, support staff, central services, and parents.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from an accredited college or university;
- Five years of successful K-5 teaching experience;
- Experience in designing and presenting staff development for adults;
- Experience in curriculum development and writing lessons.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Hold or be eligible to hold North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Elementary Education and/or Science Education;
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in science, elementary education, or related field;
- Leadership experience at a school or central services level.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates, assists, and provides coaching in the implementation of effective instructional innovations.
- Develops and provides training for teachers to increase content knowledge and appropriate use of curriculum materials.
- Assists in the review and analysis of instructional materials and digital resources for use in schools
- Develops and revises curriculum and supporting documents.
- Coordinates, develops, and conducts district level and school level staff development;
- Assists with analyzing assessment data for staff development planning.
- Establishes and maintains communication with appropriate groups and individuals.
- Attends and/or facilitates meetings with key school-based stakeholders and district stakeholders.
- Attends professional meetings, workshops, and conferences.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automobile equipment.
