POSITION PURPOSE:
Completes 30-day inspections on WCPSS school buses. Performs diagnostics and troubleshooting on the fleet of Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) school buses and service trucks. Completes routine and complex repairs in the field to ensure buses are operating safely.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps;
Knowledge and ability to diagnose, repair and replace mechanical and electrical components on school buses and service trucks;
Ability to organize and plan effectively for the maintenance of a large fleet of buses;
Ability to work effectively in the field without constant supervision;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED certification;
At least five years of experience in the repair and maintenance of light and/or medium duty vehicles.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must be DPI 30-day inspection certified or be able to become certified within 120 days. Earning DPI certification is a requirement for continued employment.
Possess a valid NC Class B Commercial Driver's License with S and P endorsements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of EKOS work order system.
Knowledge of NCDPI school bus specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform 30-day inspections, as prescribed by the NC Board of Education.
Operate specialized tools in order to diagnose and repair bus engines.
Organize and schedule daily activities in order to meet deadlines associated with the Maintenance Program.
Complete road calls in an efficient manner, as directed of a dispatcher.
Exposed to a variety of weather conditions.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position operates in a working environment and has a noise level of medium to high and inclement weather. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered very heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 100 pounds of force. Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and fumes/airborne particles. Occasional exposed to risk of shock.
