WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (Evening and weekend requirements on a rotational basis) Position is not available for a Hybrid Telework workweek 

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Performs entry level or craftsman level work associated with installation, inspection, and maintenance of communications equipment which may include fire alarms, life safety, sprinkler systems, master antenna television (MATV), intercoms, communications equipment and fixtures

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Working knowledge of life safety, sprinkler, fire alarm, MATV, intercom systems, and communications equipment and fixtures;

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; Google Apps;

  • Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards; 

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills; 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction; 

  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations; 

  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on of life safety, sprinkler, fire alarm, MATV, and intercom systems;

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback; 

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements; 

  • Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards.




PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working on life safety systems, sprinkler, fire alarm, MATV, intercom systems, and communications equipment and fixtures.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs entry level and craftsman level work associated with installation, inspection, and maintenance of communications equipment which may include fire alarms, life safety, sprinkler systems, MATV, intercoms, communications equipment, and fixtures. 

  2. Responds to assigned work orders relating to life safety, sprinkler, fire alarm, MATV, and intercom systems. 

  3. Troubleshoots appropriate corrective measures and performs work to provide a solution. 

  4. Assists in replacing faulty or defective life safety, sprinkler, fire alarm, MATV, and intercom systems. 

  5. Performs inspections, testing, and certification of life safety, sprinkler, fire alarm, MATV, and intercom systems. 

  6. Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports, as needed. 

  7. Adheres to laws, regulations, and requirements set forth in the Wake County Public School System’s (WCPSS) Safety procedures/policies. 

  8. Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintains a safe work environment. 

  9. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in an indoor and environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors and staff members of external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment. Frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather conditions.
