POSITION PURPOSE:
Supervises and assigns work orders to grounds staff relating to landscape design and maintenance; provides on the job training. Safely operates landscape maintenance equipment including but not limited to mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, and sprayers; performs routine maintenance and repairs on landscape equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
Considerable knowledge of landscape design and maintenance;
Considerable knowledge of and the ability to operate landscape maintenance equipment including but now limited to mower, weed eaters, and leaf blowers;
Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel;
Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written forms using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts and feedback;
Ability to perform routine maintenance on landscape equipment;
Ability to work independently and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff
Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback; • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, external agencies, attorneys, parents, and the public.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent; AND
Five years of experience in a landscape design and maintenance field.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must hold and maintain a valid North Carolina Pesticide Applicators License with “L” and “H” endorsements;
Within six months of employment complete training to obtain “A” endorsement for North Carolina Pesticide Applicators License;
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license (Class A) according to the State of NC requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Post-secondary education in a landscape related field of study.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises and assigns work to master craftsman and craftsmen based on Maximo work orders related to landscape needs; provides on-the job training to landscape crews.
Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Responds to assigned work orders relating to landscape maintenance; troubleshoots appropriate measures, and performs work as required by work order.
Sprays, treats, and prunes landscapes to control weeds and pests using judgment in selecting appropriate materials and methods.
Safely operates landscape maintenance equipment including but not limited to mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, and sprayers; performs routine maintenance and repairs on landscape equipment.
Ensures proper storage, selection, mixing, packaging, and application of hazardous chemicals and toxic materials.
Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in both indoor and outdoor environments. This role routinely uses standard office and landscape equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, mowers, weed eaters, sprayers, and leaf blowers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. Frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, inclement weather conditions, insects and other pests (examples include snakes, bees, wasps, etc.). The work frequently requires activities involving driving automotive equipment
