WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is eligible for hybrid telework workweek

POSITION PURPOSE:

Supervises the maintenance of various funds and accounts of the school system including planning, assigning, coordinating, and reviewing the work of the subordinate staff. Assists the Senior Director in the formulation and administration of financial policies and procedures and in maintaining, modifying, testing, and implementing accounting systems. Prepares financial schedules, performs account analyses for monitoring of accounts, and conducts financial reporting. Prepares for the annual audit.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel (designing and creating spreadsheets including the use of formulas), and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail with a high level of accuracy;
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to establish and implement standard accounting and office operational procedures;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, external agencies, and the public.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or related field; AND
  • Three years of experience in accounting or related field; AND
  • One year of supervisory experience over professional and clerical staff; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

None

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience using Oracle financial applications;
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting principles.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervises the maintenance of various funds and accounts of the school system including planning, assigning, coordinating, and reviewing the work of the subordinate staff.
  2. Assists the Senior Director in the formulation and administration of financial policies and procedures; assists Senior Director in maintaining, modifying, testing, and implementing accounting systems.
  3. Prepares and/or reviews various financial schedules or account analyses necessary for proper monitoring of accounts and for financial reporting.
  4. Prepares for the annual audit of the comprehensive annual financial report by assisting the Senior Director with preparation of various schedules, as required.
  5. Provides accounting/finance training for schools, budget managers and other administrative personnel; serves as a point of contact for general finance questions.
  6. Monitors cash flow in order to obtain the highest return on investments.
  7. Monitors performance of subordinate staff on a continuing basis, as well as perform formal annual and follow up evaluations; instructs subordinate staff on office procedures, technical accounting and bookkeeping issues, and application of various rules, regulations, and accounting procedures.
  8. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office and school environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff students, parents, external agencies, vendors, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
