WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek 

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Provides leadership, support, and consultation to Pre-Kindergarten-12 (Pre-K-12) schools to ensure effective delivery of behavioral health (social-emotional learning, mental health and behavior) practices and services to students. Responsible for providing leadership for the implementation and evaluation of effective early learning and crisis support programs that include but are not limited to NC Pyramid Model for Kindergarten, Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning, behavioral interventions, bullying prevention, dropout prevention, and social-emotional skill development. Designs and delivers professional development to staff. Collaborates and consults with school administrators and central office staff and departments regarding program development for behavioral health services and how to effectively provide resources for student support. This position and grant are scheduled to end 6/30/2024.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge of restorative practices (RP);

  • Extensive knowledge of trauma informed practices such as the community resiliency model (CRM®);

  • Extensive knowledge of current principles, practices, trends, and issues in student support services;

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;

  • Knowledge of the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) behavioral health framework;

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services;

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;

  • Demonstrated successful leadership and team building skills;

  • Effective time management skills;

  • Ability to comply with WCPSS confidentiality policies and procedures;

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;

  • Ability to design and deliver professional development; ability to evaluate trainings and professional development to ensure topics and information are being implemented;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, external agencies, and the community.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in educational leadership, school counseling, school social work, school psychology, or teaching;

  • Five years of experience in a school-based position as counselor, psychologist, social worker, teacher, or administrator;

  • Demonstrated successful experience in a leadership/supervisory role;

  • Experience designing and delivering professional development to adult learners.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License for School Administrator- Principal or Curriculum Instructional Specialist; School Counselor; School Social Worker or School Psychologist;

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in trauma-informed and restorative practices as a teacher, school counselor, school social worker, psychologist, or administrator;

  • Experience observing and evaluating staff;

  • Three years of experience as a RP or CRM® trainer.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides leadership, support, and consultation to Pre-K-12 schools to ensure effective delivery of behavioral health (social-emotional learning, mental health & behavior) practices and homebound services to students.

  2. Provides leadership for implementing and evaluating effective mentor programs that include but are not limited to character development, bullying prevention, dropout prevention, and social-emotional skill development.

  3. Designs and delivers professional development.

  4. Collaborates and consults with school administrators and central office staff and departments regarding program development for behavioral health services and how to effectively provide resources for student support.

  5. Responds to student, parent, and community concerns related to student issues.

  6. Serves on collaborative teams, advisory councils, and committees related to behavioral health.

  7. Conducts performance evaluations of instructional support specialists and homebound program staff.

  8. Attends workshops, training sessions, and meetings to stay abreast of changes relating to one’s area of licensure.

  9. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff and staff members. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force.
