Monday-Friday (evenings and weekends requirements on a rotational basis)
POSITION PURPOSE:
Performs entry-level or craftsman-level work associated with heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, materials, equipment and fixtures. Performs craftsman level work associated with refrigeration equipment including coolers, freezers, and related systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of HVAC systems, equipment and fixtures;
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel;
Working knowledge of OSHA standards;
Effective oral and written communication skills;
Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
Ability to work independently and as a team member and complete tasks in the absence of cleardirection;
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;
Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent;
Experience in HVAC or related field.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC
requirements.
Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Evening and weekend availability for on-call emergencies on a rotating basis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates degree or technical school training in HVAC systems;
Type I, II, and III chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs entry-level or craftsman-level work associated with heating, ventilating and air conditioning
systems, materials, equipment and fixtures.
2. Responds to assigned work orders relating to HVAC; troubleshoots appropriate corrective measures
and performs work to provide a solution.
3. Assists in replacing faulty or defective HVAC equipment and systems.
4. Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports, as needed.
5. Adheres to WCPSS policies including laws, regulations, and requirements relating to workplace
safety.
6. Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and
maintaining a safe work environment.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to use a variety of pesticide equipment such as sprayers, hand/power tools, etc. Must be able to
communicate effectively. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment. Continually requires
the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to seventy-five pounds. Due to the amount of
time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for heavy work.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to work in an indoor and outdoor environment and come into direct contact with school system
staff, contractors, vendors, external agencies. Frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals,
and inclement weather conditions.
