WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is eligible for hybrid telework workweek

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Responsible for all Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) employee benefits deductions to be accurately processed and tracked in accordance with federal, state, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), and WCPSS Board of Education guidelines.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
  • Working knowledge of benefits federal laws and regulations;
  • Working knowledge of database systems with the ability to analyze and organize data;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail with a high level of accuracy;
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, employees of funding agencies, and community members.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associates degree in accounting, business or related field; OR
  • Two years of experience in a benefits related field; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

None

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with Oracle based benefits systems;
  • Extensive knowledge of WCPSS or other state agency benefit offerings;
  • An insurance license (e.g., Accident and Health agent license, Life-Only agent license, etc.) and/or benefits related certification (e.g., Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), Certified Benefits Professional (CBP), etc.)

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Accurately maintains and monitors employee benefits; identifies and conducts audits.
  2. Responds to employee benefits questions and concerns within required timeframe.
  3. Calculates premiums and/or adjustments on new enrollees and package changes.
  4. Updates employee benefits in a timely manner, ensuring the coverage and deductions coincide.
  5. Ensures employee escrow balances are properly calculated to provide summer coverage.
  6. Stays abreast of rules and laws associated with the following WCPSS benefits: medical insurance plans, 401(k), 403(b), 457 retirement plans, dental insurance plans Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and non-paid leave policies, flexible benefit plans, workers’ compensation, vision insurance plans, and NC State disability plans.
  7. Collaborates with team to finalize benefit changes prior to the payroll run.
  8. Provides training and ongoing support to Benefit Representatives; communicates procedures and/or policy changes.
  9. Assists with annual enrollment procedures and processes.
  10. Gathers and reviews required supporting documents to maintain accurate benefit records.
  11. Provides consistent quality control checks on work output of Benefits Representatives to ensure accuracy and timeliness of critical updates.
  12. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office and school environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff students, parents, external agencies, vendors, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
